Ann Kynion

Ann Kynion is a locally recognized watercolor artist and has won several awards in local competitions. She exhibits regularly in the Springfield area at several venues including Nearly Famous Deli, SRAC, Juanita K Performing Arts Center and special shows on First Fridays.  A  retired art teacher of 25 years, she now works full-time creating art and sharing her passion through membership in local groups including Springfield Regional Arts Council, Visual Arts Alliance of Springfield, Studio 55, and the Springfield Plein Aire group. She also participates regularly with the Springfield Life Drawing Group,  is a member of the Missouri Watercolor Society state organization and is the organizer of the Southwest Missouri Women’s Artist Retreat, now in its 9th year. Along with Rhonda Baldwin, she coordinates the local chapter of Urban Sketchers International and maintains the public FB page.

In addition to private students, she, herself, is a lifelong learner taking workshops and classes both locally and across the country to improve her own art and opportunities to learn new techniques. During her career as an art teacher, she was the Missouri Art Educator of the year in 2000 and has presented workshops at the state conventions every year  from 1992-2010 during her teaching career. She has taught elementary, middle school and high school students. and has been an adjunct teacher at the college level. Currently she is working with MSU and Senior Age with their enrichment program with seniors at local Senior Centers.

Ann has also traveled extensively  over the last twenty years, learning through the arts of the masters of Europe and the ancient arts of Asia.. Along with those experiences, and  her background in education, teaching classes has become a natural extension.

It is obvious that she has been influenced by nature and the natural world.  Sometimes experimental, her love of nature and all it represents shines through.  She sees the world as her canvas and her art as vignettes of that canvas. Her personal expectations for those that view her art and take her classes are first, enjoyment, and hopefully, art that speaks to them.
